I have forgotten the wisdom of those that came before me. In this case, “those that came before me” is me specifically.

I have made chocolate milk the past two nights and forgotten to use a fork.

What a day, huh?

The Fed dropped interest rates 75 basis points but the market didn’t completely tank, Heath Ledger died, Fred Thompson dropped out of the presidential race, No Country for Old Men got eight Oscar nominations, and The “Church” of Scientology put a $5,000 bounty on the head of Anonymous.

Oh, and apparently only one member of our military died in Iraq today – bringing our total for 2008 to 27.

I like my Constitution the way it is, thanks

Part II in Scary Things Presidential Candidates Say features Mike Huckabee and what he wants to do.

I have opponents in this race who do not want to change the Constitution. But I believe it’s a lot easier to change the Constitution than it would be to change the word of the living God. And that’s what we need to do is amend the Constitution so it’s in God’s standards rather than trying to change God’s standards so it lines up with some contemporary view of how we treat each other and how we treat the family.

That’s a lot of history right there, Ted

By now I guess everyone’s heard about it, which is to say I first heard about it six hours or so ago which in Internet Years means old news.

Aaaaaanyway, the Library of Congress just released at last count 3,115 photos to Flickr, which are all viewable at the Library of Congress Flickr account.

There is so much fascinating stuff there. I wish I didn’t have so much homework. I’d spend all night checking them out. Here’s to hoping you don’t have anything to do today.

Reading II

From Blood Meridian:

The horses trudged sullenly the alien ground and the round earth rolled beneath them silently milling the greater void wherein they were all contained. In the neuter austerity of that terrain all phenomena were bequeathed a strange equality and no one thing nor spider nor stone nor blade of grass could put forth claim to precedence. The very clarity of these articles belied their familiarity, for the eye predicates the whole on some feature or part and here was nothing more luminous than another and nothing more enshadowed and in the optical democracy of such landscapes all preference is made whimsical and a man and a rock become endowed with unguessed kinships.

… but this may be the worst thing I’ve ever heard.

“What we don’t see is that freedom is not a concept in which people can do anything they want, be anything they can be,” he [Rudy Giuliani] said at the forum, sponsored by The New York Post. “Freedom is about authority. Freedom is about the willingness of every single human being to cede to lawful authority a great deal of discretion about what you do.”
